I’m Jared Leitner, a PhD candidate in Data Science and Machine Learning in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at UCSD. In 2018, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from UCLA. I am currently working in the Mobile System Design Lab, under the supervision of Professor Sujit Dey. My research focuses on using machine learning techniques and wearable device data to enable more personalized, precise and proactive care through lifestyle modifications. Outside of academics, I enjoy traveling, playing guitar, exercising, and being outdoors.

Biography:  

I'm Yu-Jen Ku, a graduate student at the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department of University of California - San Diego (UCSD). I am currently working with Professor Sujit Dey at the Mobile Systems Design Lab. My research interests include renewable energy powered green communication, and resource allocation in Heterogeneous Wireless Network. I received my bachelor degree at Electrical Engineering department of National Taiwan University (NTU).

I like to play tennis, soccer, and travel.

Onur Tepencelik

I am Onur Tepencelik, a PhD student at the Mobile Systems Design Lab. I received my bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University, Turkey. I started doing PhD under the supervision of Prof. Sujit Dey in 2019 and currently I am working on a project that aims to develop personal coaches for people with ASD to make their transition to social work environment smoother. 

My research interests include machine learning, data science, image processing, 3D processing and artificial intelligence. Besides academics, I enjoy watching sports, playing video games, and visiting new places.

Jianrong Chen

I'm Jianrong Chen, a PhD student at the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department of the University of California, San Diego.  I am working with Professor Sujit Dey at the Mobile Systems Design Lab. I received my bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2017. My main research interest is in smart transportation, multimodal data fusion, Internet of Things (IoTs) and machine learning. I am also interested in travelling, singing and video games.

Alexander Postlmayr

Alex Postlmayr

Alex Postlmayr is a PhD student in the Bioengineering Department at the University of California, San Diego. He is currently working on the On-Demand Virtual Physical Therapy project. He is a NSF GRFP Fellow, and his research interests span across Machine Learning, Smart Connected Health, and 3D Human Pose Estimation.

He obtained his B.S.E. in Computer Engineering from Oakland University in Oakland County, Michigan. There he co-authored an embedded machine learning algorithm for smart & fast tracking of features for Atomic Force Microscopes. His other research efforts included 3D nanoprinting and fabricating implantable neural electrodes. During his studies, he had a research internship at BMW Group in Steyr, Austria, and work experience as a Software Engineer at Connexin Software.

I am Basar Kutukcu, a PhD student at the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department of University of California, San Diego. I am working with Professor Sujit Dey at the Mobile Systems Design Lab. I received my BS and MS degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 2018 and 2020. My research interests are machine learning and embedded systems. I like to play basketball and video games.

Bryse Flowers

Bryse is a PhD student, working with Professor Sujit Dey, on the Smart Transportation and Innovation Program.  Prior to joining UCSD, Bryse received the BS and MS degrees in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2014 and 2019 respectively.  Additionally, he was previously a software engineer at Qualcomm where his work focused on multi-networking for applications such as VoWifi, hardware accelerated protocol processing, and intelligent network selection.

Bryse’s research interests are focused around the application of machine learning to wireless communications.  Outside of research he enjoys playing basketball, going to concerts, and exploring the outdoors through hiking or hanging out at the beach.

Sam Thornton

I'm Sam Thornton, a PhD student at the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department of the University of California, San Diego.  I am working with Professor Sujit Dey at the Mobile Systems Design Lab.  I received my B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California in 2016.  My main research interest is in wireless communications including things like cloud based networks, connected health solutions, autonomous vehicles, and the internet of things (IoT).  Some of my interests outside of engineering include sports, exercising, video games and comedy.
